Our department
Strategy & Business Development (S&BD) is part of Staff Function Strategic Development at corporate level in Vattenfall. We exist to accelerate Vattenfall’s transition towards its goal, fossil free living within one generation. There are four functions in S&BD; Market Insights develop scenarios, provide a deep understanding of main energy industry trends; Group Strategy, are responsible for ensuring Vattenfall is a leader in the energy transition and a thriving business today and in the future; Business Development, find and realize new business opportunities that will enable fossil-free living in one generation and; Asset Owner Support, focus on internal collaboration and creating value for Vattenfall’s asset owning businesses.

What will you do?

The main deliverable of the Market Insights team is the Long-Term Market Outlook (LTMO), a scenario-based framework for power price development, which is used throughout Vattenfall for strategic decision making and asset valuation. You will be part of an international, multidisciplinary, experienced and supportive team of experts and analysts, translating long-term energy market and political trends into insights suitable for strategic decision making and testing business opportunities. This will be a perfect chance to live your affinity for quantitative assessments, modelling and data handling to derive insightful analyses and to improve Vattenfall’s understanding of the future electricity system. And you will have the possibility to work closely with stakeholders on different levels across Vattenfall.

Your tasks and responsibilities:

In your role as Fundamental Analyst, you will develop into an expert performing economic scenario analyses by setting up, improving and running our power market models and will visualize power market results via user friendly data interfaces using PowerBI. Other task and responsibilities will be

  • examing complex problems in the field of power market modeling, stochastic analysis and IT
  • drive and improve our Continental and Nordic power market modeling. Examples are endogenous renewables modelling and system cost calculations
  • improve consistency of power market model results with the assumptions
  • develop and maintain data interfaces towards Nordic model EMPS and the LTMO data hub
  • perform ad-hoc analysis of specific business cases
  • collaborate closely with key internal stakeholders (Business Areas, Group Risk Management, Finance)
  • build a strong network of contacts throughout the organization.

Qualifications


Who are you?

As a Fundamental Analyst we expect that you will have at least 2 years relevant experience gained during your studies or within your first career step. You are open to learn new things and you would like to develop further as an analyst. Also SQL, Power Queries and using databases is self-evident to you. Next to that we would you like to have:

  • An academic degree in engineering, mathematics, or similar, with courses in energy systems modelling
  • Affinity and at least a couple of years of experience with economic modeling and fundamental analysis in a commercial or research environment, ideally with BID3
  • High computer literacy, in particular programming skills e.g. with Python
  • Learning new tools and continuously improve your soft and hard skills is your second nature
  • Result oriented and customer-focused
  • Good interpersonal and liaising skills. Good communication skills, comfortable in addressing topical experts and stakeholders with different backgrounds
  • Fluency in English, both verbally and in writing.
